We have been told there are misstatements and errors of fact in these posts. We corrected the three called to our attention. The fourth, though we had the number of weeks wrong, still shows just as egregious an infraction of the Bylaws by the leadership as what we posted originally:
Regarding the denunciation of Bear from the pulpit on Dec. 18, we wrote that the Executive Board of Elders was required to give four weeks' notice of this meeting. This is not accurate. (ref: GuS #25) They are required to give two weeks' notice--in writing. The Bylaws (see below) say "The date, time and place of each meeting shall be announced from the
pulpit, and this information, as well as the agenda, shall be published
in the Sunday bulletin on at least the two consecutive Sundays
immediately preceding the date of the meeting."
The EBOE gave no notice in writing of
any kind--neither date, time, place, nor agenda--and the announcement
from the pulpit gave only 90 minutes' notice. So although they were only required to give 2 weeks' notice instead of 4, since they did neither, the point is moot.
(According to the church Bylaws currently in effect, Article 5 "Members," Section D "Meetings," Point 2 "Special meetings"state, "Special meetings of the Members may be called at any time by the Executive Board of Elders."
Point 3 "Notice," immediately following, reads, "The date, time and place of each meeting shall be announced from the pulpit, and this information, as well as the agenda, shall be published in the Sunday bulletin on at least the two consecutive Sundays immediately preceding the date of the meeting.")
