"You have to work hard to offend Christians. By nature, Christians are the most forgiving, understanding, and thoughtful group of people I've ever dealt with. They never assume the worst. They appreciate the importance of having different perspectives. They're slow to anger, quick to forgive, and almost never make rash judgments or act in anything less than a spirit of total love . . . No, wait--I'm thinking of Labrador retrievers!" Jesus shaved his head for me!? イエスさまが私のために
頭をそってくれた!? The other day, I heard that the guy that built my room got electrocuted and died at another building site. It was shocking, and sad, as I know his family, especially his two youngest girls age 10 and 12. A few days later, I noticed that his oldest son had shaved his head. I asked my tutor about it, and she said that usually the oldest son shaves his head to help boost the merit of his deceased parent. It’s giving his father/mother extra points of goodness so that they can reincarnate into something higher.
With that, my
tutor and I started sharing about Buddhist belief and my walk with Jesus. She
explained that it’s all about doing more good than bad, that no body is perfect
and everyone has sins, but as long as you have done more good that day than bad,
you are still a good person.
And as I was
listening, I suddenly got this idea: Jesus shaved his head for me! Let me
explain, as I did to my tutor. I said, “I don’t feel like I have the energy to
do good all the time, in fact, I know how there is bad within me. But I think
Jesus shaved his head for me by dying on the cross! He not only boosted my
merit, he just took care of it all so I don’t have to worry about it! And not
only that, now, when I do good, I don’t have to do it to boost my own merit, but
to help others encounter this Jesus who can help them. In a way, it’s helping
their own cycle of good-ness.”
It was a
profound moment, when I felt like the Holy Spirit was moving within me. He
didn’t just shave his head, He died for me. So I can live for others instead of
for my own karma.
